Revenue Sources Policy

Journal of Islamic Studies and Research on Arabic (JISRA) maintains full transparency regarding its financial and operational model in alignment with the standards set by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).

To ensure permanent, paywall-free Open Access to all published articles while maintaining high editorial and technical standards, JISRA relies on the following primary revenue streams:

1. Article Processing Charges (APCs)

The primary source of financial support for JISRA is the Article Processing Charge (APC) levied on accepted manuscripts. This fee is paid by authors, their employing institutions, or research grant funders only after a paper has successfully cleared the double-blind peer-review process and received formal acceptance.

APC revenue directly covers operational and technical publishing costs, including:

  • Manuscript screening, copyediting, and proofreading.

  • Typesetting, layout formatting, and graphical preparation.

  • Crossref DOI registration and metadata deposition.

  • Server infrastructure, security, digital preservation, and web hosting maintenance.

  • Plagiarism detection software licenses (Turnitin / iThenticate).

2. Institutional Subsidies and Co-Publisher Support

JISRA receives direct administrative, logistical, and organizational support from its co-publishers:

  • Branda Media Nusantara

  • LPPM Institut Agama Islam Al-Yasini Pasuruan

This institutional backing provides stable infrastructure, office facilities, server management, and administrative personnel, ensuring the long-term sustainability of the journal regardless of short-term APC fluctuations.

3. Print-on-Demand and Hard Copy Fees

While JISRA is primarily an online, open-access journal, physical print copies of published volumes, individual issue reprints, or authors' printed certificates are available upon request for a separate fee. These charges cover printing, binding, and shipping costs and are treated as secondary service revenue.

4. Grants and Academic Sponsorships

JISRA may occasionally apply for and receive academic publishing grants, institutional sponsorships, or development funds provided by government ministries (such as Kemendiktiristek or the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia), academic associations, or non-profit educational foundations dedicated to advancing Islamic and Arabic studies.

Editorial Independence and Financial Integrity

  • No Commercial Influence: JISRA does not accept commercial advertising, corporate sponsorships, or direct marketing promotions that could compromise editorial objectivity.

  • Decoupled Editorial Process: Editorial decisions and peer-review outcomes are made independently by the Editorial Board and external peer reviewers based solely on scientific quality, originality, and validity. Financial management is strictly handled by the publishing office; editors and reviewers have no involvement in fee collection or financial decisions.
